Which ALTEN DC Generator is right for you?
Every manufacture of lead acid batteries have slightly different charging characteristics but all can be damaged or destroyed if left discharged for extended periods. Keeping batteries fully charged is the easiest way to extend the life of batteries. ALTEN Battery Chargers is your best choice for a backup DC power source and/or backup battery charging system, anytime, anywhere.
To help select the right ALTEN model, you will need to know the following information:
- Total storage capacity in Ah. (amp hours)
- Depth of discharge. (% of power removed from battery bank)
- Battery bank voltage. (12Vdc, 24Vdc or 48Vdc)
- DC load (power removed from battery bank each hour - Ah)
- Recharge time (# of hours to replace discharged battery power)
Example:
- 600 Ah battery storage capacity
- 60% depth of discharge
- 24Vdc
- 20 Ah load
- 4 hours recharge time desired
Calculation:
- 600 Ah @ 60% disharge = 360Ah to be recharged
- 360 Ah to be recharged over 4 hours = 90 amps each hour
- 20 Ah load + 90 Ah charge = 110 Ah of ALTEN output power
- ALTEN 160 amp model is closest size .
The condition of batteries may affect battery charger sizing, dead or failed batteries cannot be recharged. As a guidline, ALTEN battery chargers will recharge battery banks 10 time larger than the amp rating of the ALTEN model. As an example, a 120 Amp ALTEN unit will recharge a 1200 Amp/Hour battery bank of the same voltage.
